This report by UNDRR reviews the progress made on the inclusion of people with disabilities in disaster risk reduction (DRR) across the Pacific Island countries since the adoption of the Sendai Framework in 2015. It also highlights the remaining gaps, and outlines future directions and priorities to ensure that the commitments made on the inclusion of people with disabilities can be met by 2030.
Key recommendations include:
- improving the collection and use of disability data
- strengthening understanding of disability and the heightened disaster risks of people with disabilities
- strengthening a multi-stakeholder approach to DRR
- promoting new budget allocations for disability in risk reduction projects, and
- supporting, promoting and enabling the leadership of people with disabilities to foster successful, local decision-making in DRR.
