This report by the Special Rapporteur on the rights of persons with disabilities calls for necessity of strong participation mechanisms to facilitate better policies and services, and more effective governance for people with disabilities. It outlines the obligations of States under international human rights law to closely consult with and actively involve people with disabilities, including children with disabilities, in policymaking, through their representative organisations. It elaborates on the relevant mechanisms for consultation and active involvement of people with disabilities, as well as key areas of participation, and provides recommendations for States, international actors, and the United Nations.
